Justice & Service

Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. Whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God; whoever serves must do so with the strength that God supplies, so that God may be glorified in all things through Jesus Christ.   1 Peter 4.10-11

We have all received gifts from God, and St Luke Youth Ministry provides opportunities to share those gifts with others. Just as we have been given a variety of gifts, there are many ways to serve.  Here are just a few examples:

  • Every year on "Turkey Sunday", we sort and distribute the makings of a Thanksgiving dinner to families in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago, and each winter we prepare and serve a meal to the homeless clients of PADS.
  • During the summer, teens and adults travel to communities around the country on Youth Summer Service Trips.  Experiences range from seeing Chicago in a new way on a weekend plunge into urban Chicago to week-long experiences learning about sustainable living and repairing homes in West Virginia or framing brand new houses with Habitat for Humanity in Lexington, KY.
  • Each Sunday, young people volunteer as Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Greeters, and Servers at our Sunday liturgies.
  • Teens meet regularly during the school year to plan and lead retreats and organize other great Youth Ministry experiences.

Opportunities are numerous, and there is sure to be more than a few that fit your gifts.  The easiest way to stay up-to-date is to sign-up for our Facebook group or email list.  You can also keep visiting this site or checking the bulletin to see what is coming-up.  Keep exploring the site for more information on upcoming projects and check-out some of the links to information on Catholic Social Teaching.
