Anointing of the Sick
In this Sacrament, the entire parish prays for the seriously ill, the sick or infirmed, the aged, and those with emotional stress and illness. This Sacrament is not only for those who are near death. Any parishioner who has an illness or a more serious crisis during an illness can receive the Sacrament. We especially encourage families to contact a priest about the sacrament very early on when any family member is in the end-stage of life. If possible, the Sacrament should be received in the presence of the family in the home, at church, or in the hospital room. This sacrament can be received multiple times if health conditions improve and then worsen again.
To arrange for the Sacrament for a loved one or yourself, please contact the Parish Office at 708-771-8250.
Occasionally we will have a communal celebration of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick in church. It is available to all who have chronic illnesses or ongoing medical conditions. It is an opportunity for the entire parish community to pray for all of the sick. It is recommended for the elderly and all those in frail health. There is no limit to the number of times this sacrament can be received.
